About Afternoon Tea
What is “afternoon tea” vs. “high tea”?
At Le Faucheur, we serve afternoon tea (also known as “low tea”), featuring a pot of tea and a three tier stand with sandwiches, scones, and desserts. Traditionally served from 3pm to 5pm, it was meant to bridge the gap between lunch and dinner. High tea, by contrast, includes heartier items such as proteins and salads, which we do not offer.
Where did afternoon tea come from?
In 1840s England, lunch was served at noon, with dinner not until around 8pm. At about 4pm, Anna Maria Russell, the 7th Duchess of Bedford, began taking tea with light fare to ease her hunger. What started as a private ritual soon became small gatherings with friends—eventually evolved into what we now know as afternoon tea.
Do you offer seasonal or themed tea experiences?
Yes, we regularly introduce seasonal menus and themed experiences. An event calendar will be available soon—stay tuned!
Services, Retail & Gifts
Do you still offer mobile tea services?
Yes, we do. Please contact us to learn more or submit an inquiry.
Do you see retail items or gifts in-store?
We offer a selection of tea leaves featured in our tearoom, along with handcrafted goods by local Georgia artisans, ranging from custom sugar cubes to fascinators.
Do you offer gift cards?
Yes, gift cards are available and make a thoughtful way to share the Le Faucheur experience.
